Arteta explains why Arsenal failed to win title race
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has spoken out about the reasons why the Gunners failed to win the Premier League title race against Manchester City.
“When you are 2-0 away at Liverpool and the game ends in a draw in the 90th minute and then you beat West Ham 2-0 20 minutes into the game dominating the pitch and then miss a penalty… You have to win these matches.
Then you have a match against Southampton and you just concede two goals and have to climb a mountain. We could have won in the end, but we ended up drawing 3-3. So the next match against City was decisive. To be honest, they were much better than us. They took it to the next level against Real Madrid and when they play like that, it’s like wow. We couldn’t reach them. It cost us a lot, psychologically.
Looking back, even if we had beaten Liverpool, West Ham and Southampton, we could still be in second place. You have to beat them because that way we have six more points and City have six less,” Arteta said.
Earlier it was reported that Arsenal with Ukrainian Oleksandr Zinchenko set an anti-record in the Premier League, losing the championship.
