“For me, this season will be historic, no matter what happens”
Roma head coach Jose Mourinho has said that reaching the Champions League at the end of the 2022/23 season was not the goal of the team.
“Who said reaching the Champions League was Roma’s goal? I’m not sure. I always try to be honest, I don’t like to make a big deal out of molehills. I never said Roma were in the Champions League. When you are competing with teams that are ahead of you, it would be irresponsible to talk about the Champions League. I never did.
The only thing I fight for in the Europa League final is the Europa League final. There are coaches, players, clubs who play only one European final in their lives and feel happy. For us it will be the second European Cup final in a row. For me, this is a great season, it will be historic, no matter what happens,” said Mourinho.
The Romans, two rounds before the end of the season, are in 6th place in the Serie A standings, four points behind the Champions League zone. The Italian club can win a ticket to the Champions League by winning the Europa League, in the final of which it will play against Sevilla.
