For Sampdoria, Matteo Gabbiadini scored a goal in the opening game. Then Domenico Berardi and Matheus Enrique scored for Sassuolo.

Sassuolo were in the lead until the 78th minute, when Martin Erlich scored an own goal.

The team from Genoa left Serie A early and failed to slam the door in the last game in front of the home crowd.
